Kinda surprised C9 is so close to GE Tigers. C9 has had an up and down season this entire split, there was a lot of reason to believe they would struggle. GE looked nigh unstoppable in Korea, I don't think anyone foresaw them losing here, let alone to the bottom-of-the-barrel WE.
Exactly. I just don't understand how people thought C9 would do really well against some of the best teams in the world, since they've spent a lot of this season drastically underperforming against the bottom teams in their own region.
But GET as the nr1 from Korea, the region which has won every single tournament since IEM San Paulo 2013 in January or something and atleast been in every final after IPL5 lost vs the bottom LPL team, if that isnt a huge letdown I dont know what is.
Truth be told I find it pretty embarassing for any team to lose vs a team with 2 new players a week before the tournament even started
Because of the expectations coming into IEM, and who they lost to.
Though it's a bit of a pick your poison -- Everyone on the list either lost to #1 LMS (LMS what?) or #12 LPL. My personal opinion is that losing to #1 LMS is marginally less humiliating than losing to last place LPL.
(inb4 someone mentions that the WE's IEM roster would not have been in danger of auto-relegated.)

Dude if there's one place that hypes YFW it's probably LiquidLegends lol.
Truth. I wonder if the english-speaking community outside of those frequenting LiquidLegends was even aware that LMS/YoeFW existed prior to IEM Katowice >_>
(the LMS discussion thread, even semi-catatonic as it is, is one of the big reasons why I frequent LL)
around 20-30 top tier (by korean standards) players left korea in the past year. That are more than 5 complete rosters of top level talent gone for the region. I know everyone was saying, "korea still the best blablabla", but there was no substance behind that of actually knowing. GE Tigers so far only dominated a region, that was downgraded massively before that season and noone could knew how strong it still was. What we are seeing now is not a stunning upset but the result of that.
I think SKT K is the only team in korea, that still possibly has this incredible star power left to truly dominate international competition and even with them I´m not so sure, because they have a lot of flaws in their game too and their bot lane is not really that impressive either.
People thought when players like CoCo and GBM started to be the new dominant players, that they improved immensly. Yes they might have improved, but also the competition declined, making it easier for them to shine. Even Faker does not play as brilliantly anymore as he did in the past.
I would absolutely not taking it for granted, that this was just a fluke and at the next tournament, Korea goes back to domination.
It could happen ofc (also depending hugely on which team goes to MSI). But I think the best teams in the world are playing in the LPL right now.
