Just days out from the start of the World Championship, Griffin have announced that they've parted ways with their head coach, Kim "cvMax" Dae-ho.

cvMax was credited with taking the team from unknown rookies to three straight LCK Finals and two consecutive LCK Regular Season first places.

No reason was given by the team in their twitter post confirming the news.

UPDATE: 26/09/19

On a livestream on AfreecaTV, cvMax revealed some details of his sacking. There was some friction with the upper management of the team that was growing but really kicked up after the Summer Finals. After that, it was already determined that he'd be kicked. He holds no ill will to the players and still believes they can win Worlds.

cvMax was certainly a character. He's produced some of my favorite quotes in LoL of all-time.

One example:

, "If you are playing the game with a bomb tied to your neck like in the movie 'Saw', would you have made that play? Even if your head was on the verge of exploding? Are you so incompetent that you can't even avoid your own death?"

He's also said his goal is to have a team that can play in utter silence as no calls are needed because every player knows what to do with minimal talking. I'm assuming the methods to get that team to that level were controversial to say the least.

I dunno if that's the best thing for them this close to the world championships. Depends on the support staff I guess...

What? Are they out of their minds? Worlds in like 2 weeks..

p.s. Lehends and cvMax were a reason I kind of liked this team..

Well I guess this is a good thing for G2 and C9, although personally I was hoping that this was the year GRF proved themselves on an international stage.

"for poor performance". what a joke
he literally coaches a 2nd tier team to 3 consecutive finals in an instant and thats considered poor performance? the higher ups at griffin are smoking some strong shit

Maybe they thought throwing a (seemingly) lot of money would magically make them number 1, ignoring all the other good teams in LCK. Or in their mind, not being the very best isn't good for advertising.

cvMax always seemed like a bit of a weirdo to me. I figured he'd either be there forever or be gone sooner rather than later. How this happened though seems kind of shit.
