WTF all these guys like Bwipo, Soaz and Caps are not under contracts? Weird. Also "Boris" as in Krepo or some other Boris? He actively plays?

Last I recall Krepo was a coach and sub support for... I think Schalke? On the occasions where he was pressed into playing(2 games in August) Riot kept him off camera.
And if I was a player in EU that stayed in EU, I wouldn't have signed a contract that extended past the beginning of franchising. This is the first offseason where they'll be able to cash in on major contracts.

All the players listed as free agents will be free agents after November 16-20th. So there's still some time for teams to resign players.

Soaz has already commented that Bwipo and himself won't both be on Fnatic next year.

Why do you hate SoaZ so much
|
You think any EU team will take him?
|
Think anyone in EU or NA would take him. NA has a lot of bad imports that can't even communicate.
|
I could actually totally imagine Faker to TL. If he leaves Korea any season it would be this one. And TL will probably get a big import midlaner in any case. Would also be a huge move for marketing.
Of course it is also possible he does not want to leave Korea or even more likely China will offer more.
|

Definitely need a source on that, that's pretty huge if true

Of course it is also possible he does not want to leave Korea or even more likely China will offer more. I've read that the Koreans => China situation is a dicey one, because when it comes to taking that money out of China the amount you're able to move is limited. So people that went over for $$ can't just take it all out, so you'd have to be somebody like Imp or Rookie who love it there or somebody like The Shy who got a good offer to start immediately on a solid team.
|
I just hope Ssumday goes back to Korea and gets on a good team
|
|
thank god Ssumday will escape na elo hell
|
Oh god Dardoch on TSM sounds like it could be really fucking good or explode tremendously. I love the idea of giving this TSM roster a great and aggressive jungler like Dardoch, but knowing what TSM has done to literally every jungler they've had makes me concerned.
EDIT: Also if PoE leaves Optic him on TL could be pretty good
|
Kongdoo Monster disbanded
Max Ian and Pilot leave MVP
UoL picks up a coach???? EDIT Did my research, they're gonna stay in the challenger scene
|
Australia18228 Posts

Ah, Kongdoo was a funny team, but I suppose they weren't relevant anymore.
MVP butchered so other teams can pick up free agents? I think Pilot is a decent pickup for some low tier teams, but I have no knowledge on the new challenger teams.
|
Danwon was a main practice partner of Fnatic (and possibly Vitality as Yamato also shouted them out) and both Fnatic and Yamato said they're really really fucking good

Cody Sun/Levi and Rikara all given permission to speak with other orgs. Reminder this doesn't mean they're free agents or that they're definitely leaving.
|
Cody sun's contact gonna get negotiated with other teams while he is ready to be subbed in at home.

Marin leaves TOP and Piglet is now a resident. Does anyone bother picking him up or did breaking point poison the well on his NA LCS career?
EDIT: Maybe 100T Piglet??
|
I think his gameplay poisoned his nalcs career
|
On November 09 2018 04:57 Slusher wrote: I think his gameplay poisoned his nalcs career

Piglet should be at least a sub on some team. As a resident, he only needs to be on par with the likes of Deftly, Lost, etc. at minimum. Which he is definitely capable of lol.
Maybe FOX might go for a TL boys reunion with Smoothie/Dardoch. That team would be such a meme though with their history and how Huni, Dardoch, and Piglet are all known for going a bit too ham in game.
Fenix probably going to get stashed on an academy team for a split and could compete for a spot. Though I think this past worlds convinced teams they need a super strong mid. Might be harder for Fenix.

Sjokz going freelance, so will be in and out of EULCS broadcasts.

Still about LOL or branching out?

Replacing Hauntzer or replacing whoever their academy top is?
|
Broken Blade is German, but he indeed spent most of his career in Turkey (he did start in EU CS though). The one split of TCL I watched he didn't seem too impressive, but hey I'm not a pro scout.
|
No duh alert, getting him means one of the botlane would have to leave, at least, if he's on the main roster or Mr. Rallez leaving the Academy roster.
|
On November 11 2018 09:13 Gahlo wrote: No duh alert, getting him means one of the botlane would have to leave, at least, if he's on the main roster or Mr. Rallez leaving the Academy roster.
There's a whopping 0% chance TSM is getting rid of one of Zven or Mithy AND Hauntzer for a random TCL dude. The only way I see this happening is if one of the new franchise teams in EU offered the bot lane enough to come back and Hauntzer wanted to leave, and while the former seems likely, the latter seems next to impossible, let alone both happening at once. It would be TSM's biggest blunder yet to get rid of one of Zven and Mithy and Hauntzer.
I could definitely see a world where he's picked up for TSM.A though
|
Even so, it'd be pointless to pick up this top laner unless you had an NA player for bot that you could sub in if you needed to use him.
|
I see what you're saying, but I raise you the 100T 2018 roster where Levi literally couldn't play unless you downgraded to a meme challenger tier roster
|
Well some people that watched player streams are saying that Mithy might actually be gone from TSM while Zven is most likely to stay.
But if anything I would also expect Broken Blade to be a pick-up for academy.
|
If TSM tears the Zven Mithy combo apart I'd be pretty sad, it's like when Huni Reignover stopped playing together.
|

Rest in peace FW and LMS. Hard to argue that LMS deserves 3 seeds anymore.
|
I sure hope that the number of seeds is not decided on off season roster changes. There are plenty of arguments against a third LMS seed, but this announcement isn't one of them.

I mean, I wouldn't take it away next season but assuming they'll perform at the level i expect them to, I'd take it away the season after.
|
Guess that answers which one Fnatic wants to keep of their top laners and it looks like they've made the right choice.

That doesn't change the fact that one of the most successful orgs in NA in 2018 elected to have that Levi plan, which would pretty much mirror a TSM picking up a TCL top plan.
Maple/SwordArt to LPL or NALCS? Together or separate, place your bets now!

Maple and Swordart are going to LPL. No reason not to.
|
Soaz leaving, what an end to an era. Hope he gets picked up by a world class team, please don't go to NA to die.
I hope Maple goes to LPL for the same reason. The best NA teams all have pretty good mid laners, although if Pob got kicked I'd be happy as well.

Is there a big day when most will sign or will the info just trickle in over time?
|
On November 14 2018 00:34 JimmiC wrote: Is there a big day when most will sign or will the info just trickle in over time?
Starting from the 16th and onwards is technically when everyone is off contract, but most people have been given early free agency by a week or two. For Korea, last season teams tended to announce entire rosters, whereas NA was all about that trickle info. EU will be interesting with so many free agents and some new money injected into the scene.
|
For liquibets what are we going to do with China? Part of me wants to keep it off because learning a new league is a pain, but being as low they are the strongest (at worst second) league it would also make sense to have them.
|
I'd say keep it off. There's way too many games to reasonably juggle it with the other leagues unless it's your job.

I wonder if that's as a secondary adc to bang or if Teddy is going to get top billing. Also all the silence surrounding Faker suggests to me that he's still on the team as well.
Unrelated but according to inven Flame is free to look for other options.
EDIT: Completely unrelated, I noticed on the LPL chart Karsa is listed as an import but Mountain is listed as a non import, are LMS players imports in the LPL or not? I wouldn't be surprised one way or the other

EDIT: Completely unrelated, I noticed on the LPL chart Karsa is listed as an import but Mountain is listed as a non import, are LMS players imports in the LPL or not? I wouldn't be surprised one way or the other
I'm not 100% sure tbh. My understanding was you could technically immediately quote your home region but lose your residency in other regions. For e.g. If Amazing wanted to, he could call EU his resident region but lose his NA residency or he could stay in EU as an import and keep NA residency.
Of course, that doesn't answer the question of whether Taiwanese/Hong Kong players are considered LPL players or not.

That’s amazing if it’s true! I’ve wanted to see Teddy with some back up and some midgame for a long time.

SKT needs a shake up again, and Teddy is a good pick. Wouldn't say he's a downgrade to current Bang, although rotating ADC is really a thing, so I guess he's starter.
My hope if they stick with Thal and mold him into a good player. But they really need a good jungler, because Blank isn't cutting it.

Still hoping for SKT.Yondu
Wow, Dylan Falco also allowed to look for new opportunities. Really hope Fnatic tries to keep him after the year they had
|
teddy is a beast.
but more importantly, we need a jungler/top. ADC was not the problem this past season
|
Bang was kind of lackluster. Maybe Teddy has better synergy with Thal? But I generally agree though, they absolutely need either a strong jungler or toplaner. They need someone like Bengi, who might not be a mechanical beast, but plays around mid (and bot) so so well.
|
Teddy on SKT, if true, would be really intriguing.
Think that would be good for Bang too because I think it's been a while now that he's been looking to leave the scene. He played well this season, but I still remember him saying something about sticking around only because he and Wolf felt bad about leaving with Bengi from SKT because that'd leave 3 members of SKT out at once.
Not sure if he has the same sentiment now, or if losing 3-0 to Samsung in the Finals re-ignited his drive to play again.
|
|
The next big LCK team breaking apart. Wonder how much new talent will enter the scene, or if players will just be rotated around.

BIG NEWS OUT OF SKT. BANG AND WOLF LEAVE. BLANK/UNTARA/THAL/BLOSSOM/PIREAN FREE AGENTS. No news about Faker, interestingly enough, meaning either he stayed or negotiations are ongoing.

Man I figured that Blank be become a fee agent but everyone but Faker, Leo, and Effort leaving. Wow...... I am super nervous about SKT I hope that if the Teddy rumor is true at least Faker got a strong 2nd carry.

Wat.
Unless we're seeing C9 Faker, I don't see how C9 is okay with giving up Jensen. You don't just give up the 2nd best mid in the league.

Kakao,Teddy, Justice, SoHwan, and coach Fly of Jinair contracts had been terminated. SKT T1 Teddy seems ot actually be true :o

Golden Glues moment I guess. Big for TL sad for POB

pretty crazy, did not expect Jensen to leave C9, honestly there are probably better options TL could have chosen but this will certainly be interesting

Not many Western mids that are FAs that are better than Jensen.

Honestly the Jensen to TL move is very interesting. I feel bad for Pobelter. I think he should be able to find a team.

I'm so torn. I think C9 was in a good spot to come back next year and start a new era of title contention if they retained the entire roster. On the other hand Jensen to TL makes them one of the most stacked teams in the west by a mile and they still have the chance to get even better if they find a good replacement for Olleh. NA is TL's to lose now even more imo, I don't see a team being able to put up a roster nearly as good unless TSM actually clicks or C9 gets a good replacement.

To be fair, Jensen has NEVER ever shown up when its really counted (getting a title, making Worlds finals) and maybe C9 don't think they'll be able to evolve past their current level without a different mid

Idk, I think Pob is so overrated, he's been around forever but he's never been on the same level as someone like Jensen and Caps, who have half his career. He's done well domestically, has he ever done well on the international stage? I'm a bit sad Jensen is going to move, but maybe that's what TL needs.

I'm pretty sure we're going to see some super teams forming in LCK after the transfer window, specifically hoping for a strong SKT. LCK is probably licking its wounds from this year's Worlds, they're going to recover and if more than one super team forms, might be the most competitive they've ever been.

Zven's tweet isn't exactly helping things either in that department.
I think Pray/Gorilla are still FAs, have expressed interest in joining TSM the last time they were FAs, and can speak English - the main reason why TSM has avoided Korean players after Lustboy left the roster.
An idea being mulled over is that Mithy wants to go back to EU and right now it's coming down to whether Zven wants to stay or go.

That would shit all over the SoaZ/Amazing/Froggen/Zven/Mithy OG rumors, which was a roster I really liked.
Also I don't get why G2 would get rid of Hjarnan and Wadid after Hjarnan's Heimer handicapped the enemy teams to a top 4 finish

Btw I would strongly dislike that OG roster you guys talked about. Too many old players, too many opinions on how to play the game, too much risk aversion.

Holy shit. TL CoreJJ hype. I always liked CoreJJ and he's the perfect foil for Olleh assuming they keep him.

Honestly they should. Fnatic should, C9 should have too. I think that this year there were teams that clearly hit their ceilings and teams that didn't. That VIT roster still has insane room to grow, and now that they've tasted the world championship and came so close to the top 8, they're even more motivated and will show up even more. I contrast that to a KT or a TL where I don't really see either of those teams in their 2018 iterations getting any better than they already are/were, so change seemed inevitable

There are no players in this Vitality squad who can get better by a significant margin. All they can do is to become less clueless in certain metagames, but it's ok, one good run is already better than most get.
Either way, while Rogue are trying to find coaches, they had enough time to get HeaQ on board.

Clutch Gaming on Friday received a commitment from top laner Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon. Huni will compete alongside jungler Nam "LirA" Tae-yoo, Chae "Piglet" Gwang-jin and Philippe "Vulcan" Laflamme, which will be on Clutch's main roster, sources said.
Echo Fox is evaluating potential trade options for Joshua "Dardoch" Hartnett, sources said, signaling a potential clean slate for the team. Clutch Gaming will now search for a mid laner, as Echo Fox continues to hunt for solutions in both jungle and mid.
|
this last year in the FGC Echo fox dumped all their good players and became more of a budget team, so we might be seeing Golden Guardians v2 if my instincts are correct. If you put solo at a similar level to last year, he's just not passable in the NALCS
on that note I'm really waiting to hear where FLame goes, I think he's one of the few players left who can turn a bad team into a mid tier team.

I'm guessing it's because Fnatic doesn't pay their players as much as other top teams do and isn't interested in changing that.

Or maybe there are just teams with deeper pockets. Fnatic apparently has always tried to keep their sponsorships small so they can control their team more, but obviously that also means when pay day comes they rely on prestige and not the salary they offer.

According to Fnatic's owner they're doubling their LoL investment for 2019. Apparently, it wasn't about money so...this is the second high profile departure from a Fnatic player that wasn't about money (Yellowstar before). Gotta wonder what's it about then?

Maybe people don't like Rekkles?

Haunzer not being signed is odd since he's not an import. Also the new tsm toplaner is who?

Not only that but Jacob wolf said TSM has been unable to recieve trade offers for him, really surprising people are giving up on him based on 1 split
I'm confused as well
|
Maybe they just don't like the terms of the contract + whatever it would take to trade for him, so they'd rather wait and see if TSM will cut him and they can make a fresh deal with him.
Then there's the question of how coachable he is, since he hasn't corrected obvious mistakes in his play patterns for a while and always seems disconnected when they do post game meetings on Legends. Like dude straight up isn't looking at the coach and is instead fucking around on his phone.

I wonder with G2 if they are doing to do a lot of interesting bot lanes depending on match up. You would think having Perkz down bot side is going to open things up. I'll be interested to see how he hangs vs the traditional adcs on traditional adcs.

What's super crazy is Meteos and RO will more than likely not be in the LCS this split. RO is fucked harder by being an import, so his options shrink immensely (down to staying on CLG, Optic, or Fox). If the rumors about CLG Flame are true he's gotta be out of CLG with their pick up of PoE. There's 4 jungle spots open, TSM, Fox, Optic, CLG and Dardoch, RO, Meteos, Akaadian, and Grig competing for them. If Dardoch stays on Fox that makes 3 spots for 4 guys, and Wiggly is rumored to be CLG's starting jungler
Add to that TSM has denied TSM.Dardoch being a thing and Meteos as said he doesn't wanna be there, I don't know who is going to get a spot in the LCS

Grig is signed to TSM through the 2019 season, not confirmed as starter.

With Meteos to Optic we now have RO/Grig/Akaadian/Dardoch for the spots on Fox, TSM, and CLG. Providing the CLG Flame rumors are true, RO can't be on CLG again and can't be on TSM, so its Fox or bust for him. The other's have more room to move, but I expect Grig/Akaadian to be in academy for the split

Current rumor is CLG is starting wiggly, tsm is starting Akaadian, it’s actually looking bad for Dardoch atm, no word on echo fox other than their budget is basically 0 and they still had a spot to fill(probably jungle from what we know) when all other teams had finalized.
I’m going to make my prediction Moon, he’s probably cheap, has upside and played on clutch with 3/5 of their starters.

Actually the rumor on Dardoch right now is no team he struck out pretty hard on a compatibility level with CLG and the only teams left are CLG and CLGs coach at that time.

You'd probably get slaughtered in Istanbul for that, since Ruin joined Fenerbahçe.
Dardoch does not fit into TSM at all, since he requires pushing sololanes who are going to invade with him to function and neither Broken Blade or Bjergsen are particularly known for doing that nowadays. CLG is nearly the same for the exception of PoE on certain champions, which is why Reignover fumbled there, so no wonder that neither of two needs Dardoch right now.

I also think its crazy that TSM as an org put more weight on Hauntzer being the issue than Grig. Because there's a zero percent chance Hauntzer willingly left TSM. Not that I don't think Haunzter has been an issue, but keeping Grig feels like a really flawed strat and I definitely would have chosen to shop for junglers as opposed to top laners if both opportunities presented itself.
Mithy is a different story because you could tell even from the Legends series he wasn't having a good time

I'd think there's internal issues there. There's no way you give up one of the few domestic top laners in NA that have shown they actually have some brain power if there wasn't an unsolvable issue.

Can you, please, name foreigners, who came to NA with functioning limbs and at least some motivation left in the tank, and killed their promising careers? Besides ohq, of course.
And then, if you do not mind, do the same for TCL, curious to find out about uprising or decent South Korean and European players, who got worse there as well.

I mean GBM went to both and is mediocre as fuck. RO went from amazing in EU to literally unwanted in NA. It was mostly a joke, but there's quite a few people who have gone to Turkey after their careers were pretty donezo. Reach is another. Hell Ninja also pulled a GBM too
|
It's hard to say either way. Sometimes people just aren't capable of improving past a certain point, despite them being young and good in soloq. The same way relatively unknown and/or mediocre to bad players can become good. (look at Wunder for example) If a hyped prospect went to a region and didnt become a superstar it's not necessarily the region's fault, or the organization's fault for that matter.
Besides that, motivation and functioning limbs are also difficult to assess in a lot of cases. Of course there are people like GBM and certain other Koreans who just chill and cash out, but can we truly say that someone like Frozen didn't have the ambition to become a top 3 midlaner in the world? All I'm saying is that saying "player A became bad here" doesn't tell us too much.

GBM, who wasn't anything special since Gangplank nerfs in 2015, but still murdered both TCL/Rift Rivals. Reach didn't pretend to be good so him being terrible at both TCL/LCL is ok. And Ninja's peak was making WeiXiao retire instead of going to Worlds in 2014, so not sure if worth talking either.
And Reignover was a NA LCS MVP, just in case, head and shoulders above any other player in North America for a year, until Liquid decided that paying six figures could make Reignover tolerate his teammates in 2017 TL.
On December 03 2018 07:14 Numy wrote: Bwipo played in Turkey right? So did the new TSM top. If anything seems the region has a bit more upcoming talent in the league than NA.
He was nearly relegated in LCL, stint with Dark Passage was too short.
Realistically, TCL is the best place for the upcoming Europeans to play, since EU Masters is a joke and Turkey actually has competition plus funds. Sure, not for everyone, since there is school, but all in all, a decent place to start your career, unless you're Magifelix, your team is a dumpster fire and has Elwind in it.

Yeah, he did some coaching in LPL and then SKT.
Also, Reignover leaves CLG.

Also, GenG exchanged a Mong for a cockroach, most ironic off season transaction. Probably also bad for GenG because Cuvee really needs a competitive sub to make him work hard when it isn't gauntlet time

I was pretty excited to see him back until I read rest of the team. Really don't get why he didn't have a team this year. Guy was pretty good last year and better than a lot of the random imports Western teams do.

I'm really glad glad Expect is getting on a team again, I think he was quite underrated on G2 and was an extremely stable and consistent player

Hacker came second in all pro votes in the LPL and was pretty much the best jungler not on RNG (Ning won a lot of all pro votes becuase he didn't split time and it's easy to look good with those solo lanes)
He is very much the real thing. The rumoured Suning lineup of Xiaoal Hacker Maple SMLZ Swordart is top 4 guaranteed

Also Rusty has pissed off to GM some OPL team and is lost to casting, Fish has confirmed he is not casting LPL next year.
Sounds like Riot is cancelling the LPL broadcast tbh, which is prettyh awful because this is the year it's finally going to get good with 5+ top tier amazing teams being way more competitive than EDG wins every split days.
|
Had no internet for more than 2 weeks, pretty fun to read through all the changes since then. :D
As usual pretty hard to judge the teams, though the new EU teams loom rather weak compared to the old guard. And no idea what to think about all those new mid laners.
I am most impressed by the new Misfits roster, though TL also did really good changes it seems.

Honestly I wouldn't care less, never watched the LPL for the casters, and I watched the CN streams before the English one. But it would still be a bit sad, means that Riot is really eyeing the Asian market and moving away from the Western one, guess they follow the money.

It's going to be like every year, EU is going to spit out at least one amazing new mid laner who will fill the 'gaps' left by the old guards moving to NA (or moving to ADC lol). Then at Worlds they'll solokill Faker/(insert equivalent legend) once and everyone will lose their minds.

Griffin signs Kabbie to play support.
Meanwhile, 100 Thieves Academy player Levi is rumored to be heading to China to play with JD Gaming which I'd be excited about.

Here is a dumb question. Are the Asian languages at all like the European ones where it is easier to learn French once you know Spanish for example?

While I'm no expert whatsoever, I took a couple of semesters of Japanese and I can say Japanese/Chinese/Korean sound 100% different from each other. Maybe if I was fluent that wouldn't be the case but in my entry level knowledge to Japanese I don't know a thing about the others. Compare that to when someone is speaking Italian and you know Spanish, you're vaguely aware of whats going on in some cases

Why should they be a low tier, lmao.
They have the best mid/jungle, top-3 support/toplane and Skatch, who is as serviceable as it gets. You do not need to be a prime imp or WeiXiao to play in a team with Bdd in his 2018 form, all you have to do is not be an active detriment and Skatch is not going to be one.
This is essentially a Bdd's chance to not be called a "he's ok, but everyone can win in King-Zone DragonX", but become the best in the world in one of the biggest organisations in the history, and he has everything for it.
|
I dont know if this counts as off season roster news. But tge NA LCS has been rebranded as the LCS.
|
Makes sense, there's no need to differentiate anymore. I approve the move and it was something I was hoping to hear about since EU changed names. Thought Riot would be weird and keep it NA LCS for a year.
|
It does make sense just kinda ho-hum.
I also just heard that St Vicious went on a stream rant about depression adhd and so on being made up and "weak bitch bullshit" he did put out a long well worded apology but is still "stepping down" from fly quest. I suspect this was a step down or your fired.
People really need to learn not to be morons on stream especially in offensive ways!

People really need to learn not to be morons on stream especially in offensive ways!
Streaming is a profession that often requires or encourages mental states that are not healthy. It also reveals the worst in people, and some pros/people in the scene use it as a way to vent frustration or fish for compliments, which is so wrong. They use it as a different form of social media, when really you're just preaching to a bunch of randos.

Watching Demacia cup, I saw a few games where he was heavily camped, probably because teams felt it was the biggest weakness in RNG. Feels bad, I thought he was still alright, but CN is so stupidly stacked right now that one weak link in a team means you don't have a chance for top 4. RNG has to go against the likes of iG, TOP, SN and EDG, Snake might be a contender as well, and the other team are fielding good rosters as well. To stand above the rest, you need a godlike roster.
Still, his statement was pretty depressing, worked hard but not very rewarding.

Could just be on the roster to play later in the split as I believe the rosters lock pretty soon for LPL.

Albis and Westdoor official retire. With a relatively large exodus of players/coaches in the past year (Mountain, Karsa, Maple, SwordArt, Steak, Moojin and Stitch going back to Korea) and players retiring (those two, MMD, Chawy) I can't help but feel like Riot needs to reevaluate how they view the LMS, after years of mediocrity even with their stars
