Aleksei "Alex Ich" Ichetovkin, the AP Mid player of Gambit Gaming, is the star of the 32nd episode of my 'Grilled' interview series.
Some of the topics discussed: -How M5 went from being relatively unknown internationally to the best team in the world in early 2012. -Whether the late-game style of M5 was based more on the meta at the time or their team's individual strengths. -How playing jungle affected Alex's ability to play AP Mid well. -His thoughts on players like Toyz, Froggen, WeiXiao, Doublelift, Ryu and MadLife. -How social Gambit are with each other, contrary to popular belief.
The entire 42m24s interview can be watched at Team Acer.

Is there a transcript of the interview, or a version with subtitles? The automatic captioning on youtube appears mostly unintelligible unfortunately.

Interview Table of Content by Thorin himself.
I won't have an opportunity to listen to this until much later tonight but I have to say that Thorin is one of the best interviewers I've had the pleasure of listening to. I expect this one to be just as good and I encourage the rest of the community to take a few minutes to listen as well.
The best thing I have to say about Thorin, as an interviewer, is that he asks a lot of thought-provoking questions.

Excellent interview as usual, although the first half of questions felt less thoughtfully contrived than your usual standard. The second half more than made up for it though.

Listened to it a couple times over now, I have a lot of things that I found interesting about it, but I'm too tired to explain them in the depth that he's described. He's a great interviewee for certain.

Excellent interview, Thorin. I love your questions, and I especially love the 'table of contents' of questions.
I especially liked the questions about his opinion of player lineups - I had wondered if he really felt that way about not changing Gambit's lineup or if it was also influenced by other things, such as perhaps a difficulty in scouting strong russian-speaking talent.

holy fu---. He played 14-16 hours a day???? @__@
Alex ich is great cause he gives such honest and straightforward insight into the game. Like no bs, no excuses.
Edit: Lol, the timing of this interview was hilarious when he mentions "so last IEM, you beat the Korean team 2-0 after playoffs." And the interview was posted 3/11/2013. I assume he interviewed Alex before IEM World or that must've been pretty awkward.

Great interview, keep em coming :D

Awesome interview Thorin! I agree a bit with Navi that this particular one didn't seem quite as 'gripping' as your previous works. But still, I feel your interview standard is exponentially better than anything else out there right now.
As for specific criticisms, one of the big things I noticed of your previous interviews was that you weren't afraid to linger on questions. If you felt as though your interviewee either misinterpreted the question or seemed to be avoiding the heart of the issue, you would re-direct them in the right direction until you got a satisfactory answer. I noticed a lot less of that in this interview, but I can understand the potential pitfall that this could expose. Alex Ich isn't like Doublelift or Saintvicious in that his native language is not English so it might take significantly longer to explain the exact nuances of a question, leading to a break in continuity for viewers. Considering that problem now, and I'm not sure how "scripted" you're willing to make these interviews, but perhaps you could work with someone who is completely fluent in Russian who could translate some of your "big deep and involved" questions. You could have maybe discussed these a little with Alex beforehand so that he'd know exactly what you were asking about when you were filming the actual interview.
Definitely nitpicking here, but I love your interviews so much that I'd hate for them to have to be limited to English-speaking League of Legends players. Please keep doing these and expand into the other scenes as well!
