League of Legends the Champions Spring 2012

Korean TV channel Ongamenet just announced their "proleague-like" League of Legends tournament: League of Legends the Champions Spring 2012, with huge total prize: 200 million won (178 000 dollars).

Format:

- 4 regular seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and possibly playoffs.
- Each regular season takes about 3 month.
- There will be 16 teams for Spring, 4 of them are seeded team. rest are chosen from preliminary tournament.

Every team except CLG.NA and Fnatic are Korean, correct? Also will this entire event be live or be broadcasted in segments like LOL Invitational?

I don't think so, the OSL time slot of wednesday would be too much for the viewers to handle as the game itself tends to be long and its wednesday, people need to go to school/work on thursday.

it will most likely happen during the old PL timeslot.

Back to the topic I wish they would have invited more foreigner teams, hopefully we can see more of them on subsequent tournaments.

I think the issue is that they have to physically be in Korea to participate. Which is hard for many foreigner teams I would imagine.

Pretty surprised that Fnatic is participating :D

I've known about this for a while. Hardest piece of info to sit on. The production quality of Korean TV eSports events is crazy. I can't wait to see this.

I'm not sure of the details, I wasn't directly involved in any of this, just caught a few mails going back and forth.

LoL League begins, but where is Starleague?

I won't translate word for word, but here are the main points of the article:

1. The opening date is on Friday, the traditional date of the OSL for the past 10 years.
2. All the OGN casters, including the OSL Trio of Kim Carrier, Jun Yong Joon, and Um Jae Kyung, will be casting the games. Even the produce for this league, Won Suk Joong, was the producer for the OSL.
3. The offline preliminaries are on Feb. 24th and Mar. 2nd, both Fridays, the traditional day for OSL.

All of which makes people wonder louder if Starleague is now done for good. An OGN Representative remarked, "We have no plans currently to dissolve the OSL. We also have not set a concrete date when to hold the OSL."

A sad article for me, to be honest.

CLG already confirmed that they will be living in a gaming house in Korea for ~3 months. I put $20 down on Saint killing Doublelift within 10 days.
