TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan’s Nintendo Co Ltd said on Friday it was developing a smartphone game with messaging app operator Line Corp, as it continues to branch out into mobile gaming and diversify its revenue streams. “Dr. Mario World”, the latest mobile title featuring Nintendo’s multi-talented plumber, will be released in early summer, the Kyoto-based company said in a statement. Nintendo needs to find new sources of revenue to offset the decline of its aging 3DS handheld console, analysts say. It has released mobile titles with DeNA Co Ltd and CyberAgent Inc but has yet to score a big hit. A broad user base makes Line well placed to encourage uptake of the new puzzle game among casual users, Nintendo Chief Executive Shuntaro Furukawa said at a briefing on Friday. Source

The creators of Wargroove had a Reddit AMA that sounded really promising too. And I'll definitely be getting FF7 for Switch.

I also bought Darkest Dungeon for switch even though I already have it on PC, just so I can support the devs (one of the best turn based games I’ve played). The controls on switch for DD aren’t as streamlined as I’d thought it’d be but it’s still manageable. I haven’t played a FF game before so maybe I’ll pop my cherry with FF7

So now people have a system and there's desire for games they missed out on. It's a no brainer for Nintendo because the cost of making a new Mario Kart or Donkey Kong is well above porting it over and they can make some recovery on the cost of production for those old games in the first place. Flip back a few pages. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is a port and the best selling game on the Switch at 15 million copies. More people bought it than Odyssey or Breath of the Wild - people aren't likely to buy a system for MK8:D itself the same way they are for the other two.
