Origen coach Titus "LeDuck" Hanfer has announced that he will be stepping down as the coach citing frustrations with his ability to affect the players as the coach. He will be taking a break from coaching for Spring split 2016.
Hey everyone!
First up, I wanted to thank YOU for the great support you have given us over the season, it has been an amazing split and seeing the support from the community made it even more enjoyable.
While I'm proud of the team, that they rightfully qualified for the world championship, I did inform them yesterday, that I will be leaving the team and won't attend at Worlds. This has been on my mind for a while, but I pushed myself hard to help the players through playoffs and not hurt their chances to qualify.
There are many reasons for this decision, but I don't intend to share any details with the public. I can say that Origen as an organisation is very player focused / protective, which makes it difficult as an authority figure to push changes and break old habits. Not being able to contribute as much as I want to and being limited in my role built up a fair share of frustration. I's important to me, that I don't stagnate and improve as a person and go beyond taking care of analysis and preparation.
I did enjoy my time in this team, it was fun working with players trying their very best to improve, constantly thinking about the game and working their way to the top as a team.. As for the future, I'll be taking a longer break and won't participate in the spring split and likely return around summer.
I would like to thank all the players, especially Peke for giving me this opportunity, our analyst Hermit, our manager Sergio and our sport psychologist Robert. I wish you the very best and I'm certain you will do a great job at representing Europe this year.

Might be a good thing for OG. Seems like Ducky did not have much input anyway, maybe a new coach will have that.

Interesting that what Ducky is saying kind of echoes what people were saying about OG as a team with Xpeke being player/owner.
Soaz seems motivated again so sure OG will be fine. Just worry what happens when he gets demotivated like on old fnatic.

I don't think player-driven teams are sustainable anymore. Stubborn players just lose to guys who improve quicker with proper coaching.
Kinda sucks. He was a solid drafter from what we saw.

It's interesting for C9 because Hai so clearly coaches that team despite his position. I wonder what they'll look like without him.
And Peter's incompetent.

I do think Bubbadub has way more input than Charlie ever did, to be fair.
But C9 is still Hai's team, for better or for worse.

Coaching is hella overrated. (not in Peter case though LOL)
If team isn't motivated, you won't randomly motivate them just by being there and Western teams are yet to get Asian approach of "well, Deft, you kinda sucked, so get benched", especially, because of no roster depth. And if team isn't motivated, what's the point of throwing ideas at them which they won't use anyway. Plus discussions won't be healthy either.

yup competition has always been what inspires improvement, na and eu dont have besides small things like turtle/piglet vs kieth

I think it can work if the team is willing to work together, and they have someone who actually has a good grasp on the game as whole. However if the team is able to do that, then they would probably also be open to a proper coach.
Coaching is only useful if you have a very good coach and the team is willing to acknowledge this. OG is a team full of vets who left Fnatic because they weren't happy, so it seems they're not the best case.

If you want to become a coach in the LCS, my advice would be to make your first job a team without first gen players on it. Everything I've ever read leads me to believe you won't get a word in edgewise with any of them.

Good coaches and good GMs are worth their weight in gold. Take a look at soccer, basketball or football. It's not just strategic planning and adjustments. Talent sets your ceiling. Work ethic sets your average. But coaching sets your floor.

The first few teams in NA that had a proper coaching staff got/stayed at the top of LCS when not every team had coaches if I recall correctly. I remember being impressed at just how clearly a coaching staff makes a difference.
I have tried to coach a team for a game and realized that there's many different ways to make it work. Some people just want a little input. Some want to be told what should be done.
Some are willing to listen, but only if you prove yourself. My assumption on OG is that this is their mindset. This is harder than it seems. My gut instinct tells me that LeDuck knew a lot of things that could improve the players in OG, but he just wasn't good enough at explaining it.

Is a coach ever going to work for Origen though? They're immensely experienced and one of them is the coaches boss on top of it. A coach without authority has one arm tied behind his back from the beginning and you will never have authority over your boss.
|
It'll probably take a player which played in the LCS and looking to become a coach, to become a coach for the team. They are a team which really wants a person that has been in the professional scene of League of Legends as a player to coach them as they'll know the position the players are in.

So he says he rather not share details and then he goes right to the reasoning albeit nonspecific. lol.
