Translator notes: The coach here is called 朱开.
I registered a Tieba account today. I am posting for the first time not because we won our games, since even if we lost, I have already decided that today is the day that I must explain to everyone about IG’s current status. It’s not what you guys think.
There is a simple reason that urged me to talk with everyone today – it’s because of IG Kid’s problems.
I look at Tieba from time to time. Flame me or blame me, at the end of the day I just chuckle at the comments. I am pretty resilient, but my teammates are not the same as me. Everyone has a different personality, especially Kid.
Let me tell you guys a real situation. Yesterday, Kid constantly had subtle thoughts about retirement. If I hadn’t repeatedly consoled him – in addition to League rules and regulations – maybe today you guys would have seen Pokemon playing ADC instead.
What caused him to have these kind of thoughts? Looking back at Season 2’s Kid, a god who was not afraid to fight to the bitter end, and look at how you guys describe him today, has Kid really become garbage?
My answer to you guys is a “no”. The Kid I saw in Solo Queue, scrims, and LPL games is not even the same person. You guys gave him a lot of pressure, a lot of criticism that caused him to become afraid of feeding (messing up), making him develop a mentality that all he needs to do is to play mediocre. Think about yourself at the age of 17. If you have to face that kind of huge pressure, would you have the psyche to withstand it?
The same applies to the rest of IG. If you guys are truly IG’s fans, if IG lost a game, we can accept regular analysis and criticism. But what we need is support and understanding from you guys.
I understand why you guys flame me. It is because you guys love IG, care about IG. You guys are very emotional, but sometimes when you guys are busy flaming, please think about the people here at IG. Our emotions are hundred times heavier than you guys. Do you think we want to lose?
Let me tell everyone: the current IG is the most unified, most desired to win, most exuberant IG. We don’t even want to lose a single scrim, do you guys understand?
In regards to Kid:
Today’s game is not complete Kid carrying, but he played very well because he had no pressure at all. This is because we wanted to let Kid play the first game and Pokemon play the second game. If the LPL rules didn’t punish last minute substitutions, which lead to losing Bans, maybe you guys would have never seen Kid playing again. I believe nobody wants that to happen, because IG doesn’t have a (formal) substitute ADC!
When we were behind 2-6 after the first 10 minutes this game, the LPL host asked me if I wanted to make a substitution. My answer was yes, sub out the ADC. When Kid got a quadra-kill, I instantly went to the host and said wait a minute. At that time I was really hesitant since Kid already said yesterday that he would only play one game regardless of what happens, but I wanted to try keeping him in the game.
If the game is won, I have the ability to convince Kid. When the match ended, host asked me again, sub or not? I once again said wait a minute, then I ran up on the stage and used my method to encourage Kid to play the second game.
Everyone saw the results. Today’s Kid is the Kid playing with absolutely no burden. To me, I am satisfied with that bot lane.
I have been with Kid for almost two years. I understand what kind of his person he is. Even if you praise him nonchalantly, despite him not replying with any emotions, deep down he will be happy. And this kind of encouragement would increase his confidence a ton, consequently boosting his performance. On the other hand, more criticism would only make him feel over-cautious and over-worried about himself.
Therefore, if you are an IG fan, I don’t need to explain to you what you have do from this day on.
In regards to the coaching staff:
At the moment, I am IG’s main coach. This is because I understand the current IG team, but I never treated Mafa like my assistant coach. I always emphasized to Mafa that we are equals. We can be open to each other while both supporting this IG team.
The reason Mafa doesn’t go on stage is because he told me countless times that he is an introvert. He will get nervous on stage, and he will be unable to adjust to the constant changes happening on the competitive stage. You guys can confirm this with Mafa when he is streaming.
But not going on stage doesn’t mean that he is not putting out the work. Mafa and I would analyze the tapes of our opponents and discuss pick&ban before every game. And the night before the game, we would once again discuss with our teammates about the best strategies we should use. Contrary to popular belief, we aren’t the coaching staff that nobody in the team listens to.
In regards to pick&ban:
I have always see people saying that I am not good at pick&ban, and Mafa should come out instead. His P&B is really strong, but let me tell everyone, if Mafa go on stage he would make the same P&B. This is because we make the P&B together as a unit, so please do not separate us. Those who said that the coaches aren’t cooperating with each other, that the players aren’t cooperating with the coaching staff –let me clarify this right here, the current IG team is unified!
Because during the games P&B could change constantly, when the P&B scenario differs from the ones we had in mind, we would first ask the players’ opinions, and then use our own opinions to make on spot adjustments.
There are always people that says why we let Hecarim, Alistar, or XXX champion through P&B yet again. I can only say that you gain certain advantage and you lose other advantages with P&B, but it’s not called a P&B mistake.
So what is called a P&B mistake? Today’s P&B against RNG is called a mistake. After we banned Urgot, we wanted to force them to ban Kalista and take Sivir. But they weren’t aware, and we got the god tier Kalista pick.
And that time when we banned Sivir was also a P&B mistake. At that time, our opponents banned what we wanted to ban, and thus created a discrepancy in P&B. We were discussing whether to ban Nautilus. We might have let RNG have Sivir. But since Zztai was wearing an earphone, he thought that we wanted to ban Sivir and accidently clicked. This made us have difficulties in P&B, and that is called a P&B mistake.
In regards to P&B, let me say a few things that you guys might not like to hear. The amount of games that I picked & banned surpass even the Solo Queue matches played by certain people (translator’s note: probably haters). In most situations, our goal in P&B is to not come out with a disadvantage. On the basis that we won’t have a disadvantage, then we try to see if we can exploit our opponents’ loop holes in P&B and sneak in some advantages.
In regards to IG:
Looking at the current IG, let me tell you guys that we are unified. We want to improve, we want to win every game. It is true that we are being affected by some outside factors, but we are trying to overcome them.
We really need our fans’ attention, encouragement, and constructive criticism. You guys saw our thirst for victory in our match against EDG. It is because of our thirst to win the game that we lost a victory that was in the palm of our hands. We are still affected till this day because of that match, but we are trying to recover as soon as possible.
About me:
I can’t say that I am a very good coach. But I want to tell everyone, at the moment I am the most suitable coach for the current IG.
I understand IG, the players trust me very much (It takes more than a day or two to earn every player’s trust). Most of the things are done from behind the scenes not shown to you guys.
Maybe you guys misunderstood me. The coach is not only the person you see on the stage directing P&B. Scheduling scrims, performing analysis, managing players’ emotions and mentality are all parts of my daily duties.
Since I am honestly revealing things with everyone today, let me give you guys an example. Do you guys know why during Demacia Cup Mafa went on stage instead of me? Because my club abandoned/suspended me.
The reason why my club abandoned/suspended me was not because of any of my work duties, but because often times outside factors affected our everyday practice, for example internet stoppage, toilet overflowing, etc. The problems were constantly not being solved [by the management]. Since I wanted to make sure that the players’ daily practice was not affected, I had no choice but to skip ranks and report the problems to the upper management, and faced punishment from the club.
If my players hadn’t protected me, maybe I wouldn’t be here at IG today. But I am still happy, at least finally the problems were solved. My players can practice and compete without worries. Everyday we practice at 2PM. I wake up earlier than all my players, then I have to make them get up at 12-1PM and wash themselves. Everyday we stop practice at 11PM, and then we have to study tapes, leaving at 2-3AM. For someone at my age, I am already at my limit.
Sometimes players will start conflicting with each other because of scrims. I have to mediate and manage their mentality. These tasks are very important. If a team is not unified, then they wouldn’t go far. If you guys think about VG, WE, and M3, Chinese teams that recruited famous Korean players, you would understand.
Also, let me explain to everyone why we didn’t have a coach on stage for P&B. Before the game, Kakao had some emotional problems.
Before the game, Kakao suddenly told me that he would only play Nidalee that day. At the time, the response I gave to the manager was, if we want to win with Nidalee, we need a Maokai comp. But we didn’t have a way to take Maokai for certain, and Kakao’s actions disrupted all of our pre-game planning.
I couldn’t go on the stage for P&B. I thought Mafa should go P&B because maybe he could have convinced Kakao otherwise. But why Mafa did not go P&B I don’t know the specific reason, and in the end the manager went on stage to do the P&B.
Of course I am not trying to flame Kakao. Everyone has negative emotions sometimes, I understand this perfectly. I have already sat down with Kakao for a heart-to-heart discussion. I have already solved this situation and made sure that this won’t happen again, so everyone can relax.
I will come to Tieba more often and increase discussion with the true IG fans. Of course haters can continue to flame us, I just won’t see you as a passionate, true IG fan.
