Chad " History Teacher" Smeltz and Zach " Nien" Malhas were officialy signed by Team 8. History Teacher will be Team 8's head coach and Nien will be the starting AD carry for the 2015 NA LCS summer split. Both History teacher and Nien will be debuting on week 2 of the summer split, but T8 will be using Maplestreet and our former coach Matt Schmieder for week 1. As soon as our team's split ended last April, we had a meeting where we talked out a lot of our problems and how to remedy them for next split. I thought we needed a better head coach that could provide a blank slate and a heavier hand to enforce good habits, and the team agreed. I saw the video of History Teacher explaining why he'd be a good coach for CLG, and I naturally thought he'd be a good fit for us too. He's been trialing with us for the past two weeks, and in that short time we've made great headway on a lot of the problems we wanted to resolve before summer split, again both in and out of game. As such, I feel very comfortable handing the head coaching job over to Chad, while I move to a more transitional role within the team. I hope our fans will continue to support us through this change, as we seek to qualify for worlds this coming split. - Matt Schmieder, Head Analyst I am extremely enthusiastic about joining Team 8 as Head Coach and am very much looking forward to the beginning of the 2015 Summer Split of the LCS. As head coach, with the help of support staff, I am eager in propelling Team 8 into a position at the end of the split that players and fans alike will be proud of. With League of Legends continuially becoming more and more competitive, we will work hard on and off the rift to get to the place where we know we can be. - Chad "History Teacher" Smeltz, Head Coach Hey guys, not much to say besides I'm going to do my best to go from a loser to a winner. We haven't been playing together for long and we have a lot of work ahead of us, but right now isn't what matters. Worlds has been my dream for a while now and I'll try my hardest to make sure that we can get there and play with the best of the best! Thank you for your continued support. - Zach "Nien" Malhas, AD carry As a team we were not satisfied with our result last split, and felt like we could have done much better. First problem we realized was that we needed a coach with leadership. A coach who is not just a friend, but also a leader who is able to push each player's limit for improvement. After a two weeks of trial with Chad "History Teacher" Smeltz in our house, everyone voted unanimously to keep Chad as our Head Coach. Also during the break, we tried out new players for all positions. After playing some scrims with Zach "Nien" Malhas, our team improved in communication and the environment of the team became more positive with his attitude. We look forward to working with them for this split, and we hope to qualify for worlds this split. - Eric Ma, Team Owner

Somewhat skeptical of HISTORY TEACHER. He seems eloquent, but I have my doubts on his actual coaching experience (he has done it before, but I am not sure how much). We shall see!

Well if the team trialed it and it worked out then why not. They know what they want, difference is if they were wanting the right thing. Sad to see Maple confirmed gone, don't necessarily see it as an upgrade but it aint a downgrade. Glad Nien get's his opportunity for retribution though.

We'll see how this works out, sounds promising right now. gl to them both in team8

Can't the same be said about almost every League Coach not from Korea? At least he has some applicable education unlike the majority.

T8 going for their best TL jacket impression.

I'm not so sure I'm in love with Dodo as a support. But either way, I can't wait to see Nien curb stomp the shit out of Doublelift.
Paralyzed by the defeat, Doublelift goes into a complete state of shock. When the full realization washes over him, Nientonsoh just destroyed me in lane 1v1 and carried the shit out of his team. Doublelift breaks down and starts sobbing uncontrollably. As the members of T8 approach CLG, Doublelift jumps up and rushes off stage with his face in his hands. During the post game interview, Nien is awarded MVP and is asked about Doublelift's performance.
Nien says in his innocent, good guy, nonchalattle demeanor, "Doubellift is trash. I think he has to deal with personal problems at the moment."

Recruiting Reddit personalities and streamers to coach - this is why Western esports professionalism is still a joke lol.

What is wrong with History Teacher as a Coach? Organisations have to develop coaches themselves because we don't have the numbers of experienced coaches in the west. At least Team 8 picked someone who is a trained Teacher and should have skills that are applicable in coaching a team.

Nien looks fat T_T
I bet he fall into depression due to his times in CLG.

Actual teaching experience > Korea

Time will tell how much of an effect the signing of HistoryTeacher will actually have; will reserve judgement for now. (lbr they could've done much worse)

Good on T8. Even if the result may turn out in whichever direction, the process of picking someone who looks to have a skillset relevant to coaching in general is still a big step up from something like... oh, say, selecting Scarra as head coach. (ie an approach more sound than mere connections and familiarity)

damn niens getting fed already

Too many people forget that teams often have poorly led lives away from the game. Any impact he has on in game stuff, honestly, is a bonus.
