Hai is stepping down from his position as a midlaner in Cloud9 but will stay on Cloud9 in a management role
Hai shared his thoughts openly:
“I am stepping down from being the Mid Laner for Cloud9 effective immediately. I’ll try my best to give you guys some insight into why this is happening and be as transparent as I can.
First and foremost, I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported Cloud9 and myself throughout the years I’ve played. I’m very thankful to have had this opportunity to pursue my dreams and become a professional player. Without Jack, we would not be the team we are today and he has always looked out for the best of each player and the organization/team.
I’m deciding to step down due to the following issues:
My wrist injury is something that I simply cannot ignore. It limits my ability to play as much as I need to and my ability to improve. I cannot keep up with the amount of Solo Queue games my teammates play and it’s not fair to them. At best, my wrist injury would have only allowed me to play for another split and that wasn’t even certain. Team environment/morale was at an all-time low since Worlds 2014. We didn’t have the most spectacular 2014 Summer Split and our run at Worlds was not the best we could’ve done. We tried very hard to figure out how to get back into shape for winning Worlds but we struggled and the team atmosphere started to decline. Winning IEM San Jose brought back a bit of that Cloud9 feeling that we know and love, but it left as quickly as it came. I want to make this clear to everyone. I am NOT stepping down due to community criticism for my play or myself. I would be lying if I said I didn’t care about it, but I was able to brush it off thanks to my teammates’ confidence in me. Over time, my teammates started to lose confidence in my abilities as a player and a shotcaller. That’s what really hit me hard. I don’t think that is an obstacle I was able to overcome and it really got to me. I’ve always played the role of a Support Carry from the very beginning and with the meta changing the way I think it is, my play style was not going to work anymore. I’m hoping with the addition of a new Mid Laner (which we will announce soon), the issues that we were going through will resolve themselves through hard work and the team can experience a new beginning. Will all the problems be solved? I’m not sure, but if there were ever a time to try it, it would be now. I’m confident they will be able to improve and take back the title of Best in NA and make a presence on the international stage. I hope all of you will continue to cheer for Cloud9 as I know I will.

Sucks to fall behind due to injuries, but I think his view on the meta is also interesting. His "style of play" wouldn't work anymore so rather than change it he just quits in favor of a new shotcaller.

i'm interested to see who c9 will pick up, but also glad that hai will still be present in esports.

Very sad news
Hope Incarnati0n won't screw up C9.

As much criticism as he gets, I think Link would be a good replacement for Hai. He's already played with the team and he can fill that supportive role for the mid lane that they work so well with. IMO taking a chance on Link would be safer than going for a wild card like Incarnation

I guess that Incarnati0n is a possibility for C9 but I have strange feeling that he will disappoint as much as nukeduck did.

Finding someone who can manage in Mid isnt the hard part. Hai was nothing special when it came to his play after all but his ingame leadership will be a lot harder to replace. Hope it works out for C9.

If you have wrist issues and it's hindering your ability to practice as much as you need to in your current style, how would you suggest he changes his style since he can't change it through grinding out games?
Quitting when you have a limited time left and need to make a significant change in order to remain competitive makes most sense. If he didn't quit now and tried another split but was unable to make the change or made his injuries worse, it would harm the team.

I remember reading something a while back about a maybe "leak/rumor" that C9 Incarnation was already going to be a thing.
My betting money is on Incarnation thus being imported over to C9.

Quitting because of his wrist injury seems the big reason, but I'm curious as to whether he might have replaced himself anyway because he was having trouble with the current meta. In a way it seems like a strategic move a really competitive teamplayer might make.

Obviously Sneaky going to become C9's new mid and Rekkles to become new adc of C9.

You can't really disassociate one from another, since his condition severely impacts his physical ability to change his play style. He could have the drive and the talent to do it but unless he can put the time in it won't matter.

Sad news and Good news at the same time.
Hai was one of my favorite player for along time and I did enjoy his style of play. But at the same time, I think this change will be beneficial for C9 and will help them to go further.
Thanks for all those game Hai,was nice to watch you!

In all seriousness, what are the chances dade/easyhoon will come to C9 though?

Easyhoon would be the perfect fit
-speaks english
-skt shotcaller when he plays
-mechanics in par with the best mids in the world
-good enough to sub for the best mid laner to ever exist and also good enough to play games that matters instead of faker, like the last series agaisnt CJ when skt won 2-0
-can play supportive style and also aggressive
-doesn't need jungle help 24/7 to never lose lane
but come on, C9 can't afford him and neither Easyhoon would want to go to a team like C9. He actually speaks English so he can go to any top team in the world

They are one of the richest teams in western esports.

I've heard that EasyHoon did not go to China simply because he was asked to stay by skt. I have no source on this lol
Welp, now for the waiting game to see who is the potential mid laner. Hopefully it's not Incarnati0n (not link either pls) and someone who can rip the mid lane.

Yeah I heard him say that in his first mvp interview after a game, it was 4 months ago I think? When ogn started.
I don't think he was asked to say by skt in a way like "Hey how about you stay with us for no money compared to what China is offering you? it will be fun! you will be a sub, a sub for the best mid in the world so you will play just a few games!"
Skt is obviously paying him a lot. Also as far as I know, Skt is the only org that actually pays his players what they deserve.
Easyhoon also said the other day in his chat, in english, that he will stay in Skt even tho he has offers from other teams.
A mod of him was saying even Najin wants him for the next split.

Right then, I guess its time for C9 to use all their savings to acquire dade. C9 dade. <- this thought alone makes me shiver in disappointment that dade decided to go to China instead of being C9's midlaner
