Passive: Traveler’s Call Ancient Chimes
Bard’s presence causes sacred chimes to appear on the Fields of Justice. Collecting a chime grants Bard a brief burst of movement speed, experience, and mana.
Meeps
Bard’s presence attracts small spirits known as meeps to his side. Whenever Bard attacks, a meep throws itself at his target, dealing extra damage before disappearing back to the spirit world. As Bard collects more chimes, the meeps that follow him grow in both number and power.
Q: Cosmic Binding
Bard fires out a burst of spirit energy in a line, damaging and slowing the first enemy struck. After Cosmic Binding hits an enemy, the burst of energy continues through, searching for secondary targets. If it hits a wall, it stuns the initial target; if it hits a second enemy, it stuns both targets.
W: Caretaker’s Shrine
Bard conjures a health pack that gains power for a few seconds. Allied champions who walk over the pack gain health and a brief burst of movement speed, while enemies can stand on the pack for a moment to destroy it.
E: Magical Journey
Bard conjures a portal on a target wall. The portal tunnels through to the far end of the wall, granting one-way passage to all champions, friend and foe, who enter it.
R: Tempered Fate
After a brief delay, Bard places all units in a targeted area - friend or foe, including champions, minions, monsters and turrets - in stasis. Frozen units are immune to all damage until the effect wears off.

Tunnel port seems pretty op, can't wait for his release, seems pretty OP on paper but League needs champs like that.

The thing that surprised me most is the potential for grieving. Riot limited themselves a lot until now because of this, leading to sometimes convoluted designs (Thresh's Lantern was done this way so you can't drag a teammate in the enemy team when you go suicide, or away from a sure kill, not to give opponents a chance to prevent the guy from clicking the Lantern).
You can easily doom teammates by ulting them. You can ult nash to buy time for the enemy team to come. You can create a portal so the enemy Udyr catches up to that Ezreal who shifted over the wall.
Looks like they're easing up on this.
|
Yeah, I'm a little surprised by that too. Wasn't Lissandra's ult supposed to work on teammates too originally?
In any event, the kit looks really fun and rather strong. I just don't like the idea of a FV ult in general though.

From the (admittedly little these days) League I watch/play I find it very hard to believe a champion that has only one ability that does damage/reliably CCs can succeed in the support role. It's still Leona, Annie, Morgana, that fish lady who was released after I left, and pals in the bot lane, isn't it? Shame, because the kit is actually neat.

The ratio on his Q and passive will need to be pretty fine tuned. Too low and all you will use him for is the W and R. Too high and he'll become a mid lane menace, where he roams to top/bot, throws down the ulti to get your team in position or let you turret dive easier.
And with Q being his only damage move outside of AAs I'm going to guess it has high base damage with low AP ratio, while W has low base heal but high AP scaling for HP gain and speed boost % increase.

I like how after deliberately axing wandering supports they're designing a champion centered around it.
This is pretty cool in a vacuum, but doesn't make any sense in the context of anything else.

bard player roams top/mid enemy bot duo and jungler take drag 'why didnt we contest drag whys bard top/mid' 'im a roamer guys riot said so'

'what was I going to do anyway, drop a health pack and make a tunnel at them?'

Yup, first thing I thought of too.
What I find interesting is that there is no Max-Range-Circle when they normal-cast his ult in the ability clips they provided, or at least we can't see one. That either means that the range is HUGE, or that they haven't decided on a range yet. Imagine if his ult had TF or even level 1 Xerath ult range. If this is the case, I wonder if the travel time for the ult is the same at all ranges or if it has a fixed speed.
The fact that his E (tunnel) only works through walls is pretty interesting too. Less potential to be super OP in lane since you can't just dash back 1000 units from anywhere. Still though, the range seems to be high enough that you can E through any wall at any angle in SR, which is super interesting.
His W seems like it could be super abusive, depending on how long the wells last, what the CD is, and how much HP they restore. Bard could visit mid/top and just drop a well (or 2 depending on CD) at his laner's turret and bounce, leaving his laners with free sustain should they need it. Could also do the same for your jungler, hell it could make some junglers "viable" (read: able to survive first clear) if Bard take W level 1 and leave wells for his jungler to collect when they take their buffs. Hell, if the level 1 W is strong enough, your jungler could probably start with no pots and get their jungle item faster.
I'm really curious to see his actual numbers, as they will determine a lot about his potential utility.

Interestingly, people shown moving through his tunnel seem to have a bubble around them. Does this mean they have immunity in transit or shield? It would be kind of odd to have people die or be CCed in the middle of a big wall. However, if they do have immunity that's pretty exploitable.
I've wanted incentivized roaming for years so I'm hyped. Its gonna be pretty miserable for some ADC's who get nub Bards who refuse to even show up to lane though. And pretty sad for some Bards who get nub ADC's who engage fights 1v2. I actually think the chime mechanic is good because it doesn't incentive wandering around for no reason at all (unless there are just tons of chimes).
Also they appear to say his tunnel is only one way (from bard out), so no supporting ganks by allowing udyr to tunnel through a wall into lane.

medpack seems weaksauce, nami and company can heal without waiting 5 seconds for it.
IDK about the ult, its powerful but also pretty short, i guess its allriight.
The wandering around is of course going to be a soloqueue nightmare, as an adc you play 1v2 because your support is on his magical journy to find himself some spirits, as a support its also bad because you have to leave lane for your passive and your adc might just die like they do when i leave as leona or thresh to go mid for 20 seconds.
Riot designing for their meta is hurting them, this is literally someone going "we need bot lane support that also runs around the map a bit, guess we need to give him some mobility, some stuff to cause him to run around and some kind of pack that he drops into lanes that he visits so he can run around and be semi-useful without ganking. Oh and i guess some CC so he can lane and be useful in fights, make it skillshots per the 2014 memo."

I think the ult's power could vary a lot depending on what the max range is.
Actually now that you mention the "magical journey to find himself some spirits", I wonder if they coded his passive differently than Yasuo passive or Shiv, meaning that you actually have to move around to different areas of the map in order to get the Chimes. I would assume so, since it would be pretty broken to just hand a lane support free exp for walking around in lane.

Much like Kalista, I see this as a champion that will be arguably more popular and effective in competitive than in solo queue, and definitely more used in high ELO than low ELO.
Maybe I'm wrong.
I'm curious how often he gets a meep, because that will play a big role in his damage output, which is important during laning phase.

I love when new champs are released cause I get to see the TL idiots figure out ways to shit on the champ. Sadly this time they can't use their "league of manaless gapcloser knockup revive passive" memes.
Personally I think this is the most exciting champ to have been released since Thresh. That AoE ult is one of the few abilities in League where using it badly isn't just an opportunity cost, but can actually lose you the game.

This is pretty cool in a vacuum, but doesn't make any sense in the context of anything else. Not to mention that literally the only the passive has any useful interaction with being a full-time roaming support.
Lack of strong rank 1 nukes and reliable disables pre-6 hurt the idea of being a roamer more than the passive could realistically help, unless the XP gain is so overtuned that you can hit 2 off of running around the map doing nothing in reasonable time.

Starting with tunnel opens up new angles for jungle invade.

I'm surprised Riot would be so open to designing heroes that can grief people. They are coming out with more interesting kits lately though so I'm pleased.

On a side note, that Ult is going to be super troll for securing objectives it looks like. Run up to Baron, Ult the enemy team, then trololol away with Baron for free.
